Keeping Your Apartment Safe Includes Installing Apartment Alarms

!: Keeping Your Apartment Safe Includes Installing Apartment Alarms

I have found an interesting phenomenon amongst apartment renters and that is that many apartment renters are under the impression that they do not need to install an alarm system to help protect their residence from a potential break in. This is an absolute and potentially dangerous misconception. Studies continue to show that apartments are more often broken into than are single family homes and as such any apartment renter needs to seriously consider installing some kind of apartment alarm system. Such alarm systems are extremely easy to install and cost much less than one would think, making installing an apartment alarm seem like a no-brainer to me.

One of the things that make apartment alarms so much easier to install than an alarm system for a single family home is that with an apartment you usually have much fewer points of entry to concern yourself with. This certainly is the case with apartments that are not on ground level as you really only have to worry about a burglar breaking and entering through one or two doors depending on the layout of the apartment. So for example in a case where there are only two doors to worry about, one could simply hang a motion sensor alarm on each doorknob at night. If a burglar tries either door the ultra-sensitive motion alarm is sure to scare the holy heck out of him and certainly be loud enough to wake you and have you on the phone with the police in no time (hopefully in time to apprehend the low life). Compare the cost of two door guard alarms (which should run about 30 dollars combined) to installing an alarm system in a single family home (which could easily cost thousands of dollars) and the apartment costs literally a fraction of what the home security devices cost.

I was recently at a friend's apartment and noticed that he had nothing installed in the way of an alarm system. He did not even have so much as a door stop to keep potential intruders from entering his residence and when I asked him about it his reply was "I have renters insurance" and I think this is another common misconception people have. They somehow believe that renters insurance is going to keep burglars out of their home. If you are living in an apartment I beg of you not to think along the same lines as these people. Renters insurance can replace items once they have already been taken but it can never replace the sense of security you felt before a stranger came into your home. The only way to mend that feeling of insecurity is to never feel it in the first place and the best way i know how to do that is by installing an apartment alarm.

Stay Safe,

Carl Vouer

3 Steps to a Successful Emergency Action Plan For 2010

!: 3 Steps to a Successful Emergency Action Plan For 2010

Everyone will at sometime in their life have an emergency. It may be divorce, sickness, death, unemployment or some other sad moment, but for sure at these times you will without doubt need some emergency money.

If we know that at sometime in the future, we will be hit by such a terrible moment, does it not make sense to get ready for it with and Emergency Action Plan?

It does not matter if you are rich or poor at sometime you will need extra cash - even if it is for the downpayment of your new Aston Martin!

So what is an Emergency Action Plan and what are the 3 essential parts to the plan that you need to put in place?

An Emergency Action Plan is a pre-prepared document that allows you and your family to be ready for emergency. In this article I am referring to Financial emergencies, but in actual fact, you should have an emergency action plan for other situations as well.

So here are my 3 steps to putting together your Emergency Action Plan:

1) Make a list of all your assets, loans, jewelry, businesses, stocks and shares, debts, money in banks and any other financial elements in your life.

Do not forget to include debts and liabilities as well as assets.

2) Gather all essential documents, photos of valuables, passports, birth certificates, copies of dental records and fingernail prints and other identifying documents for all of your family members. Collect account numbers, addresses, emergency telephone numbers, signatories addresses, lawyers name and all other personal and important documents. Make a copy of everything and store the originals in a safe place.

3) Discuss with your family, what to do in case of emergency. Appoint someone to look after the family affairs in case anything happens to you.

Involve lawyers and accountants in the plan as your family may incur huge tax bills if you leave them property and other assets in wills. They are going to be struggling emotionally so no need to burden them with financial problems too.

This does not need to take long and should only incur minimal costs with your legal representatives.

All the original documents should be stored in a fire proof safe or with a bank safety vault. Obviously give the details of the boxes to someone else, just in case you are not around.

It would also be a good idea to store some emergency money in the safe just in case you need it.

Obviously this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to protecting your family and loved ones, but it is better to have a small plan than none at all and as time progresses you can allow the Emergency Action Plan to grow.

Do not forget that you may need, at least once a year, to update the Emergency Action Plan.

Who Makes the Best Gun-Safe?

!: Who Makes the Best Gun-Safe?

This is a question that every manufacturer would love the opportunity to answer. And there is nothing wrong with having pride in what you make. Nor is there anything wrong with marketing and telling your story. The thing consumers are concerned about, however, is that when they dish out hard-earned money for a relatively expensive item like a gun safe, they want to be sure to be getting a real value, something with the quality and features they need, and at a reasonable price.

A gun enthusiast certainly has many choices and even more to think about when deciding who makes the best gun safe for them to buy. There are some pretty strong opinions out there that a safe made oversees just isn't going to be as good as an American safe. I won't argue with that, but then again, I am an American. Seriously though, a safe made here in the USA really does have more features, higher quality, and a better value than many safes made overseas. First, I would consider how fireproof the safe is. In my mind, a truly fireproof safe is the number one criteria I have. It is much more likely that a safe would have to survive a fire than it is that it would have to survive a burglar's attack. Then, I would take a close look at the quality of the steel. I don't want some cheap quality steel around my expensive guns. Do you? Regardless, there are many ways to go about buying a gun safe, whatever manufacturer you end up deciding to go with.

You can spend a little or you can spend a lot. Just be sure to compare apples to apples when you are going through the process of comparing who makes the best gun safe. I know people that are pretty content to scan the classifieds, go to garage sales and otherwise hunt for a bargain on a safe. They don't really care much about features and quality as they do about function and price. These people have a sickness that cannot be healed. Unless they are getting rock bottom prices they just can't be happy. No problem. Other people are obviously a bit more sophisticated in their buying. They will often only buy from a retail store where they can see, touch and experience the quality and features of the safe. Others will find online sellers who carry top named brands and will back the sale up with amazing customer care and satisfaction. If they can do that, then they are happy.

Like any other purchase online, a buyer should do their homework on all aspects of their purchase. Not only should they do their research to find out who makes the best gun safe, they should be equally diligent in researching companies that sell them as well. You don't want to get stuck holding the bag should you decide to purchase from just any old online seller and something goes wrong with your purchase.

If you do your research to discover who makes the best gun safe, then find a reputable company that sells online, you can save lots of dough and have a pleasant buying experience. I hate to admit it, but I am guilty of doing my research online, finding a retailer to go see and experience the product, then going back online to find a deal. It's the world we live in.
